Do you want to know the Purpose of your Life?
Why do we need in our life?
I often wonder why I was born?
(Okay, don’t get any weird thoughts about naughty stuff, let’s stay on topic)
It feels good to have meaning or purpose in life.
I mean, often times when we try to make decisions in life, having a meaning or purpose that we already had chosen, helps us take better decisions.
Let’s say, you decided your purpose is to get married to a loyal woman. Then, if you see a woman that matches with that attributes, you will go all in. If you feel a woman is often lying or not being honest with you, you will breakup.
Similarly, let’s say, you decided your purpose is to win a gold medal in Olympics for swimming. Then, you won’t eat junk food. You will make sure you keep your body fit, in order to win that.
Purpose gives us motivation, Purpose helps us take better decisions.
Anytime, you feel this ambiguity in your life, you lack purpose.
For example, Let’s say, I don’t have any purpose regarding dating. I go to a club. Should I talk to some girl? or Should I not?
Or, Let’s say, my friend calls me to eat junk food. I don’t have any purpose for my body. Should I eat it or not?
Its weird! But if you are feeling indecisive in life about choosing a major thing, you might lack purpose.
Is purpose really necessary?
But, allow me to not be a hypocrite. I hate purpose.
Think about it! Let’s say you decide you are going to be a doctor when you complete high school. This is a purpose that demands certain sacrifices.
You have to spend a lot of time reading. You need to prepare for entrances. You need to think, whether you want to go abroad. Is your girlfriend going to wait for you, till you become a doctor. Can you get a girlfriend with your busy schedule?
Okay I was going overboard with the girlfriend part, Pardon me! Doctors have girlfriends. I just wanted to state my point.
The point is, PURPOSE binds you.
Purpose demands SACRIFICE.
You can either be consistent with purpose or live with indecisiveness.
I say both are extreme.
Often times, when things are extreme, I find that the answer lies somewhere in-between.
The answer to this problem will be drumroll please GOALS.
What is a Goal?
Goals are mini version of purpose.
Think about it, let’s say you want to get into a particular University or College. This is a big dream, making it a purpose.
Let’s break down this purpose into goals,
- If you want to go to that university or college, you need high grade
- To get high grade, you need to ace in papers in all semesters.
- To ace in all semester, you need to ace in this semester.
- To ace in this semester, you need to study for coming exam.
- goes on and on….
See, now our purpose is broken down and the goal we got at last is study for coming exam.
Like Purpose, this goal also demands sacrifice, but the level of sacrifice is greatly lesser than of the purpose.
Also even if you achieve this goal, and decide not to achieve your purpose, its okay. Its not gonna give you Identity crisis. Rather you will be happy you achieved your goal.
I am not saying Goal doesn’t need sacrifices. Every goal needs sacrifice. But, you can reduce the level of sacrifice with goals.
Goals come with their own set of rules and things you need to be careful about.
Let us discuss that next!
The Three Steps Goal Cycle
You see, in order to reach a purpose, you need to go through several goals.
This forms a goal cycle, that is built around a purpose and often repeated carefully to achieve that purpose. The three steps in this cycle are
- Pick a goal
- Achieve the goal
- Celebrate and Analyze the Goal
In the upcoming sections, we will discuss each of these steps in detail.
Each steps will have their Do’s and Don’ts, you have to make sure that you follow them to not mess up your purpose.
Goals can help to achieve a Purpose. But Goals can also help us to find our Purpose.
Even if you don’t have a purpose right now, trying to achieve different goals and see if they make you feel good, can help you find your purpose.
Okay, its time, we need to dive into these three steps much clear.
Let’s start with the first one!
How to set or pick a goal?
Let me be clear, it is crucial to How to find a goal. Because, as I said, you are gonna sacrifice something for your goal. It maybe time, money or whatever.
If you end up with a goal that is not worth the sacrifice, you just picked the wrong goal.
There are some ways I use to find my goals. But before that, we need to ask a crucial question.
What is my purpose?
You can answer this in two ways,
- I don’t have one
- I have this purpose ______
I don’t have a purpose, What should I do?
If you answer is similar to the first one is, the best advice I have is to try something new.
Personally, I believe, if you don’t have a purpose, its because you don’t like what’s going on with your life. You don’t find meaning in things you want to do.
Its not that, you are bad, because you don’t have a purpose. Its bad because, you didn’t know what you like and what you don’t like.
I realized this later in life, that sometimes you just don’t know until you try.
For example, for a very long time, I never cared to hear about Gym. Because, well… I don’t know I had no opinion on it whatsoever. Everybody around me went but I didn’t.
Recently, I moved to a new town and wasn’t able to do my work towards my purpose. So I lacked purpose one or two months. I decided to give something new a try and went to gym with my new friend.
Well Damn Damn Damn…. I won’t spend an another day without tracking my calories. That’s how I found out I like going to gym.
Okay… I am not gonna sugarcoat it, as new experiences only bring happiness.
In the same time, I also decided to do Trading, which is great if you do equity. I entered the options trading and lost my money. So, trying new can also go wrong. I just want to say that.
Regardless of good or bad, you will learn about yourself.
You will know that you like something and, you don’t like something.
That would lead you to find your purpose in life.
Some suggestions from me are, try coding, swimming, gym, trading, photography, edit videos, try YouTube or Instagram, watch Korean drama and movie genre that you wouldn’t prefer, do skin care, learn a skill, martial arts, travel to places, try something new… That’s all.
Finding out what you like and don’t like, will lead to self awareness which leads to purpose in life.
Remember, its definitely not bad, to not have purpose in life. As long as you are trying something new to the core.
I have a purpose in life, How should I pick my Goal?
Well, you already got one step, you got purpose, that’s pretty cool.
Let’s talk about How you can achieve that purpose, by picking out a relevant goal.
I got a trick up my sleeves for ya… Its called BACKTRACKING.
Remember, in the goals sections where I said
let’s say you want to get into a particular University or College. This is a big dream, making it a purpose. Let’s break down this purpose into goals, If you want to go to that university or college, you need high grade, To get high grade, you need to ace in papers in all semesters……. The list goes on and on
Yeah, this is where I used that technique.
You have to think your purpose and then think back from that, as like in the example.
If you want your purpose to happen, what should be done before that?
If you cannot put those in words, well I am sorry, but all you have is a dream or fantasy, you need to learn more. You don’t have a purpose as you claimed.
Think about it, Let’s say I want to marry an elegant loyal woman
- What do I want before that ? - I should find a loyal elegant woman
- Before that?- I have to go on dates
- Before that? - I have to work on my current issues regarding relationships
- Before that? - well….
- How do you plan on solving your issue ? - Therapy I guessss…
- How do you plan on paying for therapy ? - Job
- How do you get a job ? - Ummmm……. I need skill
See that’s the failure point. If you are reading this, I hope you are better than this.
Backtracking only works, if you end up saying, what you can do now that would lead you to your purpose.
Remember, the purpose of backtracking is to find what you can do today?
Backtracking allows you to find crucial paths in your journey.
Always set your goals, according to how much you can sacrifice.
Think about it, if you decide to do something for 3 months, you need allot time for 3 months. You never know what reason will come tomorrow to make you stop.
Always have a manageable sacrifice, not too low, not too high.
If getting a job is goal, minimize it to learning a skill.
If learning a skill takes time or months, further minimize it.
You can’t run everyday for the next year, but you can run this week. If you have good goals with this method and start to achieve them, then it will lead to where you want.
Also, don’t be sad, if you can’t achieve your goal in your predicted time.
This is simply because, as humans we suck at predicting something we have no idea on.
Even if you fail, think about the purpose, think about the track, retrace the track, try to see if there is a better one, catch that and go at it again… It is going to be full of success and failures. Be okay with that.
How to achieve your goals ?
With that said, I want to elaborate a strategy I use, to achieve new goals, master something or learn new things.
But I won’t be covering this in this article. I want to create a separate article for that.
It will be titled as, Do you want to achieve your Goals? and will be linked here in the near future!
I am not planning on writing that next, cuz I feel like I want to write some things, that are currently happening in my life. But I will cover it within this month!
Stay tuned for that!
What to do after you achieve your goals?
Personally, I thank God. I will actually ask God to provide me with good goals, help me achieve those goals and thank him for giving me victory or a lesson(in case of failure.)
This is the fact of any goal, whatever that might be, you will either win or lose.
I want to tell you, what to do in either of those situations.
What to do when you win?
Stay fucking Humble! (Sorry for being harsh!) But that’s how you should be.
Most people, I don’t know how, have this feeling of being superior to others, because the had reached success at a goal than others.
Listen to me very carefully ! Whatever you do in this live, any kind of victory it might be, it will never make you better than anyone.
You may have competitors and you can win them. But don’t let that pride come in.
Let me give a example, why this is true…
My friend has knack for cars and I don’t.
Let’s say someone buys a fancy car. To my friend’s eyes, he might seem like a successful person, he might say to me that person is successful. I will also approve of him.
But, do you think I will care anymore, I don’t. Its not my thing and it doesn’t affect or involve me.
Let’s say this fancy car person, looks at me like I got nothing, because he got that, and treats me, not so well. I don’t care. I won’t talk to him or respect him. You may have success but you lack character.
Success, without good character, is no success at all.
Just because you have a million followers on YouTube, you didn’t become superior to others.
If you ever get struck in island, where nobody knows or watches much YouTube, you will be nothing. Your character only save you there.
From my childhood, people (my surroundings) had put this seed in my heart, where they say if you earn more you will be respected more. Its kinda like saying, you will be superior to others.
As growing up, I realized I will not give respect to someone, just because they have a lot of money. These people lied. Even, people with a lot of money are often disrespected because of how they got that money.
Money doesn’t make you superior. If you think money is superior, and start to earn a lot of money. But, someday someone, end up disrespecting you. Don’t sit there wondering, what went wrong?
Your character would have to be good, if you want people to like you.
Don’t chase goals, if you think it will increase your value or it will make some people like you.
If that’s your goal, you can learn how to act and present better.
Don’t try to attention seek or people please!
Anyways, the one method that helps me to stay humble all time is Thinking Back and Thanking!
If you think about it, any goal is achieved, if only :
- The situations work together to form sequence of events
- People co-operating with you
- Environment being clear for you
- Relationships who support you and save you from mental problems
- Food that keeps you healthy to achieve your goal
- God who guides you
- Mentor who teaches you
A lot more to thank everyday! I mean, if one of the above failed, you wouldn’t able to do it right.
Say Thanks to that! and be Humble!
Chase new goal that will lead to your purpose!
Give credits to everyone who helped and celebrate with them!
Analyze every aspect that helped and say Thanks to That!
Even Thank the machine that co-operated with you without failing. Thank the person who repaired the machine when it failed.
I don’t want you to gather a meeting and say Thanks! Just tell thanks in your heart!
You will embrace the beauty of the world, how we all depend on each other.
You will love to help others in their goals.
You won’t see the world as competition. So try that!
You can actually think about your current situation in life and thank for everything that happened! Try that now!
What to do when you fail?
It happens! You tried!
Here’s the thing, I once had a crush on this girl! It started as a small and it grew everyday!
I never worked up my nerve to go to her and tell her that I had a crush on her.
I used to stalk her Instagram activities and try to learn much about her. Soon it became an obsession. I can’t get over her anymore. I dreamed of life together. (weirdo!)
Anyways, I didn’t worked up my nerve yet. But one day, I decided Fuck it, I am gonna tell her.
And I did. You know what she said?
She said, “She has a boyfriend”. I kinda felt relief actually.
I had a crush and I confessed my crush. If I kept it to myself all time, after some years I might think I missed my chance, she might’ve liked me. If I ever get to know she got married. I would think, I should a tried.
Rejection is better than Regret.
Always remember that.
Picking a goal and working towards it demands sacrifice. You have to give up something. Like, all in life, somethings just fail and its not your fault. You should be happy, you gave your all.
You need to think about it and be like, I TRIED MY BEST BUT IT DIDN’T WORKOUT WELL ! ITS OKAY THOUGH! I WILL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT THING!
If you still feel the spark towards that purpose. You think you gained experience. If you want to try again, go ahead and do it.
No matter! if you win or lose, you will know one thing! You gave your best and sometimes things won’t happen the way we want.
This why I like goals!
Think about it… Goal is a small step in purpose, if you failed on, you can find another goal that will lead to your purpose.
But if you think in purpose, you need to sacrifice a lot and you will end up feeling regret all your days, that may cause burnout or depression.
Some people, when they think in purpose, they will have actual dream path they wanna take. If the dream path failed they don’t know want to do.
For example, Let’s say I plan on becoming a director. My purpose perspective might say, find a producer and pitch the movie. But the producer might say, you don’t have the skills.
In purpose scenario, everything is big task, so everything will have a great pain and pleasure effect.
But, if I think it in goals, I be like, I have to take some short films and build portfolio.
Even if I fail making short films, I will write screenplays.
You see purpose matters, goal’s victory is for experience.
Purpose is larger, you may say, I will chase it after I complete college or after a year.
But, goal is smaller, you can chase it now. Find your goals and chase it, man.
Hope, this article helped.
This is my first one, so I am sorry for the grammatical mistakes, I hope you understand my point.
I am not gonna use any AI to correct my grammar, as I feel it will lack my slang and also I want to improve the way I phrase sentences better.
I will correct the mistakes in future. But for now, I will focus on publishing blogs everyday!
THANK YOU!
